Alas, with the help of my loving boyfriend, I have become flexible. As you may recall, I didn't have any plans for this weekend, but that was the best thing ever. Friday night we visited our friend Ashley at work and brought our friends Brodie and Sarah with us. It was a night filled with fun and booze... 2 of my favorite things (with the third part of the trio being gettin it on).
Then yesterday Derek woke up and decided he wanted to go to Blue Springs for a day of canoeing, swimming, picnicing and good old fun. Now the old me would have said hell no to this last minute, not planned way in advance idea, but I was all for it. So, we packed up the car, got ourselves ready and went to Blue Springs... only to find out that it was closed due to overcrowding. Shit. We were all the way in Orange City with not a clue of what to do. Now the old me would have cursed alot, pouted, and then demanded to just go home because the day was ruined, but I'm a new gal. So I called the ranger station at Blue Springs and spoke to a very bitchy lady who told me there was another state park with similar amenities near by--Hontoon Island. However, her and her counterpart at Hontoon Island were unwilling and/or unable to give me directions. So we looked at a map and figured we'd wing it, but that wasn't working out so we stoped at a gas station to get a map. As were looking at maps this guy asks us where we want to go. When we told him Hontoon Island he said, "Well why the hell do you want to go there?" We explained our story, and he said, "OO Well theres another spring thats much closer and nicer called DeLeon Springs." He then gave us great directions (that included where the cop was hidden out on the way), and informed us that hes a scuba diver and was just there and that it wasn't full or very close to full.
So we went to DeLeon Springs and had a great time. We had a picnic by the spring, we went canoeing, we dipped our feet in the arctic spring, and we headed home. It was an awesome. We also discovered the state park springs are really just redneck waterparks. They're cheap (only $5 for both of us to get in), no one cares if you swim in clothes instead of a suit (and there were people testing this theory), you can pack a lunch or bring some charcoal and have a BBQ, you can fish, theres a country restaurant available, and, well the main point is that its cheap. If you're ever in the mood for prime time hill-billy people watching, a state park spring in the summer is the place to go.
As for today, well this Sunday is like most. Laundry, cleaning, organizing--all the things I love the most packed into one day a week. And all the while Derek gets to hang on the couch and catch up with his long list of GREEN DVRed shows.
This is the life!
